CHILDREN OF DISOBEDIENCE
(Enlightenment
Through Scripture)
Ephesians 2
And you hath he quickened, who were dead
in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the
course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the
spirit that now worketh in the children of
disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in
the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the
mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God,
who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we
were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are
saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in
heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness
toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any
man should boast. For we are his
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before
ordained that we should walk in them. Wherefore remember, that ye being in
time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision
by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That
at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of
Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and
without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far
off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath
made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between
us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments
contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so
making peace; And
that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having
slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were
afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access
by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and
foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints,
and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the
apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth
unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded
together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Ephesians 5
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear
children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given
himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once
named among you, as becometh saints; Neither
filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but
rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean
person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man
deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath
of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers
with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the
Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all
goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving
what is acceptable unto the Lord.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works
of darkness, but rather reprove them.
For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of
them in secret.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest
by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest,
and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye
walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because
the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the
will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be
filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks
always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives,
submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife,
even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour
of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the
wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and
gave himself for it; That he might
sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he
might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle,
or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought
men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth
his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet
hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are
members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a
man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and
they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak
concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in
particular so love his wife even as himself; and
the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Colossians 3
If ye then
be risen with Christ, seek those things which are
above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.Set your affection on things above, not on things
on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with
him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which
are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil
concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things' sake
the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in
them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy,
filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that
ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the
image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew,
circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian,
Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. Put on therefore,
as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness,
humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and
forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel
against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on
charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in
your hearts, to the which also ye are called in
one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in
all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do
in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God
and the Father by him. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as
it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be
not bitter against them. Children, obey your parents in all things: for
this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Fathers, provoke not your children to
anger, lest they be discouraged. Servants, obey in
all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers;
but in singleness of heart, fearing God: And whatsoever ye do, do it
heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye
shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and
there is no respect of persons.
